In life and in sport, it is hard to underestimate the value of making a good first impression.
Notre Dame senior boys basketball head coach Mark Gallagher took it upon himself to send video of Lucas Ponting playing to a number of Ontario University Athletics programs and one of the teams that took the bait was Queen’s.
It invited him up to visit the Kingston campus and scrimmage with five other recruits against 10 current varsity players.

The next step in Ryan Andrews’ lacrosse career will take him to Alabama.
The Grade 12 student at Welland Notre Dame has committed to attend NCAA Division 2 University of Montevallo on a field lacrosse scholarship. The 18-year-old St. Catharines resident chose Montevallo over offers from schools in New York and Tennessee.
“I had a great connection with the coach, he really sold the school to me and they have the program that I want,” he said. “And I got the right amount of scholarship money that I wanted. It was the perfect fit.”

Two Notre Dame athletes found their way to the top of the podium twice Sunday at the 75th Annual Canadian Secondary Schools Rowing Association Championships on Henley Island.
Stella Bittman teamed with Sarah Schaefer, Sophie McQueen and Ella Woodcock early in the day to win the senior women’s quad and then she combined with Madeson Scott to capture the senior women’s double. Scott also won the senior women’s 63-kilogram lightweight single.
