Josh Calder scored the most important field lacrosse goal of his career Thursday afternoon at Youngs Sportsplex.
After watching his Notre Dame Irish surrender a late two-goal lead to the A.N. Myer Marauders, the Grade 10 student scored in overtime to give his team a 9-8 victory in the Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association AAA championship game.
“That is my biggest goal. It was really exciting,” said the 15-year-old, who scored five goals in a semifinal victory over Churchill.

The top five finishers advance to the South Regionals next Thursday and Friday at Welland Centennial.

Flanked by his parents, Tanya and Josh, and his 15-month-old sister, Rebecca, Tyrone Webber returned to Notre Dame Thursday to replicate his signing of a NCAA Division 1 football scholarship with the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
The 19-year-old St. Catharines native has already been on campus in Stillwater, Okla., for a semester but it was important for him to return to Notre Dame to give credit to those that helped him along the way.

Cassie Orr is the definition of versatility.
The Grade 9 student at Notre Dame in Welland competes in javelin, shot put and high jump at the high school level and the member of the Thorold Elite Track Club excels in all three events.
At the upcoming NXT CHAMP Invitational June 18 and 19 in Toronto, an invitation-only meet that brings the top 16 athletes in the province together to compete, Orr will be taking part in five events.
