Instead of letting a 55-30 loss to the Governor Simcoe Redcoats in the qualifying round define them, the senior team from the St. Catharines rebounded and went 3-0 to win the consolation championship at the 13-team tournament.

Ava DeChellis went from zero to hero in a manner of minutes Thursday night.
The 14-year-old, Grade 9 student atoned for a pair of key misses at the foul line with a game-winning bucket in overtime as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish edged the A.N. Myer Marauders 39-35 in a championship round semifinal game Thursday at the Second Annual BPSN Girls Basketball Tournament.

Nicole Pullar began playing basketball at a very young age but decided last year to hit the pause button.
“It was because of school,” the 17-year old said. “I had been told that Grade 11 is your hardest year but Grade 12 is easier and I have a couple of spares. I thought I would play.”

Emma Hemphill made a triumphant return to her old stomping grounds.
The 17-year-old, Grade 12 student at Notre Dame attended Holy Cross Secondary School before moving south this year when her family relocated to Welland.
Hemphill netted 14 points on her old court as the Fighting Irish defeated the E.L. Crossley Cyclone 59-36 in an opening round game Tuesday at the Second Annual BPSN Girls Basketball Tournament.
