Close call for Fighting Irish

bpsportsniagara ndcs 11232022Adam Ponting isn’t really a morning person, but you’d never know that based on his performance Friday.

The 15-year-old, Grade 10 student scored 17 points as the Notre Dame Fighting Irish dropped a close 67-64 decision to the Bishop Tonnos Titans at the 46th All Ontario Catholic Classic Basketball Tournament at Notre Dame.

Asked if he enjoyed early starts — the game began at 9:30 a.m. — Ponting was quick to respond.

Guelph marshals forces to welcome McCray

bpsportsniagara ndcs 11232022The Guelph Gryphons football team brought everybody but the water boy to Notre Dame Thursday to announce the signing of Fighting Irish quarterback Marshall McCray.

Joining Guelph head coach Ryan Sheahan at the signing ceremony were offensive coordinator Mark Surya, running back coach and operations manager Nate Kettles, strength and conditioning/defensive line coach Adam Kania, special teams coordinator/defensive back coach Donnavan Carter and Niagara recruiter/personnel coach John Casasanta.

Irish and Reds advance to championship quarter-finals

The Grade 12 guard didn’t disappoint Wednesday as he netted 21 points to lead the Fighting Irish to a 90-42 win over the Governor Simcoe Redcoats in the opening-round action of the 66th Annual Welland Tribune Basketball Tournament at Notre Dame.
