Julia Tremeer was a double winner at the Niagara Catholic Athletic Association Zone 2 track and field meet Wednesday at the Niagara Olympic Club.
The 15-year-old Grade 10 student at Notre Dame placed first in the junior girls 800 and 1,500-metre races, which was her goal coming into the day.
“I won them both last year as well so I was looking to post good times so I can get into the faster heats at SOSSA (Southern Ontario Secondary Schools Association) and continue to get my times faster,” the Pelham resident said.

Lacavera Field will be home of the Irish

A well-respected and beloved name will be attached to the new artificial turf field at Notre Dame.
The Niagara Catholic District School Board and Notre Dame College School announced this week that the Lacavera family has contributed $500,000 toward the installation of the new turf field at the Welland school. The field will be named in honour of the late Honourable Justice Alphonse Thomas Lacavera of the Ontario Court of Justice. Despite his auspicious title and distinguished career, the Notre Dame graduate was a favourite among neighbourhood children. They often called on him to come out to play and they would enjoy a skating rink that he built and maintained in his backyard for many winters.
