Post-Secondary Education in the United States

pathways

Graduation

Student Services can provide assistance to students who are considering a post-secondary pathway that involves schooling in the United States. Students who are hoping to play sports at the post-secondary level are encouraged to speak to a Guidance Counsellor in their grade nine year to ensure that course selection meets the NCAA requirements.

NCAA Eligibility

All athletes wishing to play sports in the US must clear through the NCAA Eligibility Centre. https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/  Requirements vary depending on whether your prospective school is DI, DII or DIII or NAIA.

SAT / ACT

All athletes must write either the SAT or ACT test. Again, schools will direct which test they prefer. Students must register online at https://www.collegeboard.org/ in order to schedule test dates for the SAT and/or at https://www.act.org/content/act/en/register.html for the ACT

PSAT

Students may choose to write the PSAT-Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test. It is typically written once a year toward the beginning of October of their grade ten or eleven year. Students should speak to a Guidance Counsellor in June of Grade nine or ten and also within the first two weeks of September if they wish to write the PSAT at one of our NCDSB secondary schools. There is a nominal cost to cover the ordering of materials for this test.
